Irish equine technology firm to digitalise horse welfare and veterinary records across Morocco’s National Studs.
Irish equine technology company Equine MediRecord has signed its first partnership in Morocco with SOREC, the country’s national authority for the development of the equine sector, horse breeding and horse racing.
The agreement will see Equine MediRecord deploy a dedicated version of its equine welfare platform across SOREC’s National Studs, enabling breeders, trainers and veterinarians to record veterinary treatments, medications and vaccinations while supporting compliance with Morocco’s equine welfare and anti-doping regulations.
“We are proud that our Equine Welfare platform will support breeders, trainers and veterinarians through secure digital records that enhance horse welfare, veterinary traceability and biosecurity”
The platform creates a secure digital health record for every horse, providing full traceability of veterinary information while helping to strengthen oversight, transparency and regulatory compliance. Once validated, records are securely stored and can be tracked throughout a horse’s lifecycle, supporting welfare and biosecurity standards.
Ensuring best practice in horse welfare
The initial rollout within SOREC’s National Studs marks the first phase of the project and could pave the way for wider adoption across Morocco’s equine industry.
The partnership forms part of SOREC’s broader strategy to modernise the country’s equine sector through digital innovation and the adoption of international best practices in horse welfare, veterinary governance and racing integrity.
Equine MediRecord has built an international reputation as a provider of digital health and compliance solutions for the equine industry. Its platform is used by organisations including the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the British Horseracing Authority, Racing Victoria, the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, the Pegasus World Cup and the Preakness Stakes.
In 2022, the company joined Business Infusions following a multi-million-dollar investment by Merits Holdings, supporting its continued international expansion.
Dr Hicham Debbagh, Deputy Managing Director, Racing & Industry at SOREC, said the partnership supports Morocco’s ambitions for the sector.
“The development of Morocco’s equine sector is driven by continuous innovation and the adoption of internationally recognised standards,” explained Dr Hicham Debbagh, Deputy Managing Director, Racing & Industry at SOREC.
“This partnership with Equine MediRecord is fully aligned with SOREC’s commitment to strengthening horse welfare, veterinary traceability and the integrity of our regulatory framework. By providing breeders, trainers and veterinarians with advanced digital tools, we are supporting the continued modernisation and competitiveness of Morocco’s equine industry.”
Pierce Dargan, CEO of Equine MediRecord, described the agreement as an important milestone for the company.
He said the deal strengthens Equine MediRecord’s growing international footprint and extends its presence into North Africa as demand increases for digital tools that support equine welfare, regulatory compliance and racing integrity.
“We are delighted to launch our first partnership in Morocco with SOREC, an institution that has demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation and the continuous development of the country’s equine sector,” Dargan said.
“We are proud that our Equine Welfare platform will support breeders, trainers and veterinarians through secure digital records that enhance horse welfare, veterinary traceability and biosecurity. We believe this partnership represents an important milestone for Equine MediRecord and look forward to supporting Morocco’s ambitious vision for its equine industry while continuing to expand our presence across international racing jurisdictions.”
