Real-time mapping and location intelligence platform strengthens project delivery, collaboration and safety management across power, telecoms and renewable energy operations.
TLI Group is using Esri Ireland’s ArcGIS technology to support the delivery of some of Ireland’s most significant infrastructure projects, including the National Broadband Plan and the national smart metering rollout.
The infrastructure services company, which designs, builds and maintains power, renewable energy, smart energy services and telecommunications networks, has implemented Esri’s location intelligence platform across its operations to support growth and improve project management.
“The technology has had a positive impact on health and safety and helped us build a stronger safety culture across the organisation”
The digital mapping and geographic information system (GIS) technology is now used by teams throughout the organisation, providing field and office-based staff with access to the same real-time information. The platform supports a range of functions, from locating poles and managing overhead power line upgrades to planning and tracking trenching and ducting works for wind and solar farm grid connection projects.
Information collected by operational staff using mobile applications is shared instantly with office teams, who use dashboards, web applications and desktop tools to monitor progress, manage projects and provide updates to clients.
Safety at the core
Paul Sweeney, GIS and Data Manager at TLI Group, said the technology delivers both flexibility and practical benefits across the business.
“ArcGIS gives us a lot of off-the-shelf functionality, as well as the flexibility to build the GIS services we need on a project-by-project basis. This is all without bespoke code or the need for a supplementary development budget.
“The platform gives our teams instant access to information both in the field and in the office, helping staff work more efficiently and make faster decisions. Having live data available through mobile apps means teams can instantly identify and quickly risk assess any issues that arise.
“At TLI Group, safety is a core company value, and by making it easier for employees to report potential risks, the technology has had a positive impact on health and safety and helped us build a stronger safety culture across the organisation.”
One of the key systems developed by TLI Group using ArcGIS is its company-wide “Near-Miss, Good-Catch” reporting platform. The system allows employees to report potential safety risks directly from mobile devices, while managers receive immediate alerts and can monitor trends through live dashboards.
According to the company, multiple digital health and safety reports are now captured and reviewed each week, helping to enhance safety standards across its operations.
Location, location, location
Jack French, account manager at Esri Ireland, said the project highlights the growing role of location intelligence in large-scale infrastructure delivery.
He said the adoption of ArcGIS forms part of TLI Group’s wider digital transformation strategy as it continues to expand its role in the delivery of Ireland’s energy, telecommunications and utility infrastructure.
“TLI Group’s success demonstrates how organisations can modernise operations and manage increasingly complex projects more effectively using location intelligence. Since its implementation, TLI Group has improved how information is collected and used across the organisation, streamlining processes and saving time and resources.”
By integrating real-time data collection, mapping and analytics into everyday operations, the company has created a connected digital environment designed to support project execution, workforce collaboration and operational oversight across multiple business divisions.
“Providing teams with access to real-time data has created greater visibility across critical infrastructure projects, replacing manual and time-consuming tasks and freeing up employees to focus on core value add business activities. New agile and efficient processes have established the flexible and scalable foundations for sustained business success as TLI Group continues to grow and evolve across the infrastructure industry.”
