Longford County Council sells strategic site to US healthcare manufacturer Technimark.
Longford County Council has sold the former Eircom site to US-based healthcare manufacturer Technimark, facilitating a major expansion that could create up to 120 new jobs in Longford Town.
The strategic site disposal was approved through a Section 183 notice brought before a recent Council meeting on the proposal of Cllr Gerry Hagan and seconded by Cllr Kevin Hussey.

Technimark currently operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on the Ballinalee Road in Longford Town. Since acquiring the former Tool & Plastic premises in 2020, the Longford site has become one of the company’s three European hubs, alongside operations in the UK and Germany.
Strong desire to scale
With a €26m investment underway to expand its manufacturing capacity and develop a European Innovation Centre, Technimark’s purchase of the former Eircom site is critical to its next phase of growth.
The site was purchased by Longford County Council from Eircom in May 2025, and Technimark’s move into this new facility could result in the creation of between 120 and 150 high-quality jobs.
Speaking at the Council meeting, Michael Nevin, Head of Enterprise at Longford County Council, presented the Section 183 notice and recommended the sale.
“Technimark has an immediate and critical need for additional space. The senior management team in the US has expressed a strong desire to grow its successful Irish operation in Longford, provided a suitable site was available to facilitate this expansion,” he noted.
Chief executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon, welcomed the development. “This is a great news story for our county and a real vote of confidence in the potential of our county town. The creation of 120 new jobs will bring a significant economic boost to the area and new opportunities for local families.
“I must commend our elected members and council executive for playing a key role in facilitating this growth through the sale of the former Eircom site, thereby enabling the company to expand and invest locally. It’s a great example of how strategic collaboration can deliver real and lasting benefits for our communities.”
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Cllr Garry Murtagh added: “This is a major milestone for our community and showcases the positive impact of proactive local leadership. The creation of 120 new jobs will be a huge boost for Longford Town and county. I commend the work of the council and our elected members in supporting this expansion by making this site available – it’s a strong example of how we can help unlock growth and opportunity in rural Ireland.”
