Half of CIOs lack access to suitable cybersecurity solutions, report warns.
A new report from global technology service provider Logicalis reveals that 51% of chief information officers (CIOs) lack access to cybersecurity solutions that fully fit their business needs.
According to the 2025 Global CIO Report titled ‘Return on Innovation,’ which surveyed 1,000 CIOs worldwide including Ireland, only 58% of respondents feel fully confident in their ability to identify potential security gaps.
“While it’s clear that threats are mounting, questions are being raised about the effectiveness of security spending and implementation”
A similar percentage (56%) reported their security patch systems are too complex to manage.
Alarming rise in cybersecurity incidents
Mairead Malone, Country Leader for Ireland, Logicalis UK&I
The research highlights a concerning trend in cybersecurity breaches, with 78% of organisations reporting that attack volumes have either remained consistent or increased.
An alarming 88% of surveyed companies experienced a cybersecurity incident in the past 12 months, with malware and ransomware attacks accounting for 42% of these breaches. Furthermore, 43% of organisations suffered multiple breaches during this period.
Despite these challenges, half of the surveyed CIOs admitted their companies have over-invested in security solutions they don’t need, while 58% believe their current security investments fully meet organisational requirements. Nevertheless, 96% of organisations acknowledge the need for improvements in their security coverage, with 45% requiring significant upgrades.
“Organisations face a concerning paradox in cybersecurity investment – they clearly need to invest but, more importantly, they need to identify solutions that adequately meet their needs and effectively protect their operations,” said Mairead Malone, country leader for Ireland, Logicalis UK&I.
“While it’s clear that threats are mounting, questions are being raised about the effectiveness of security spending and implementation. The fact that the majority of organisations have recently experienced a cybersecurity incident, with some enduring multiple breaches, is alarming. The businesses which fail to address these issues will only leave themselves – and potentially their customers – vulnerable,” Malone added.
To help businesses address these concerns, Logicalis will host a roundtable event at The Shelbourne in Dublin on 29 May, 2025, focusing on trends highlighted in the 2025 Global CIO Report.
