Galway and Chicago unite to boost creative startups through new international partnership. Start-ups in each city will have access to coworking and incubation resources.
A new international collaboration between two leading creative industry hubs – 2112 in Chicago and CREW in Galway – was officially launched with the signing of a strategic partnership agreement at 2112’s headquarters.
The signing took place during a visit by a Galway City delegation led by Mayor Councillor Mike Cubbard, as part of the Galway–Chicago Sister Cities initiative.
“The partnership aims to create new international pathways for creative entrepreneurs, supporting startups in music, film, gaming, immersive media, design, and other digital creative sectors”
“I’m proud of the relationship we’ve built with CREW over the past few years, and excited to see it formalised through this partnership. 2112 has always believed in building meaningful, global connections to support the growth of creative industries,” said Scott Fetters, CEO of 2112.
“This partnership empowers entrepreneurs, connects ecosystems, and creates real opportunities for creative startups on both sides of the Atlantic.”

As part of the agreement, CREW and 2112 will provide selected startups with access to coworking and incubation resources in each city. This will support entrepreneurs in exploring new markets, building networks, and developing international partnerships.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to reducing barriers for creative founders and enabling global growth through connected, supportive ecosystems.
Niamh Costello, CEO of CREW, added: “This partnership with 2112 is a clear example of CREW delivering on our strategy to drive industry growth and internationalisation. By creating direct market pathways between Galway and Chicago, we are enabling Irish creative start-ups to access new opportunities, connect with international partners, and position Ireland’s digital creative sector on the global stage.”
The partnership will facilitate knowledge exchange, mentorship, and soft-landing opportunities for companies seeking to scale internationally.
Mayor Mike Cubbard welcomed the initiative, stating, “I warmly congratulate CREW and 2112 on this exciting international partnership. It’s fantastic to see two innovation hubs come together to support creative startups and foster global collaboration. As Galway and Chicago share a strong Sister Cities connection, it’s especially meaningful to witness initiatives like this that build on our cultural and economic ties.”
The agreement also strengthens collaboration in graduate entrepreneurship, creative technologies, and academic–industry partnerships.
“World Business Chicago is proud to welcome Mayor Cubbard and the Galway delegation, a visit that underscores the deep and lasting ties between our cities,” said Phil Clement, President and CEO of World Business Chicago.
“This new partnership between CREW and 2112 builds on that foundation – opening international pathways for creative entrepreneurs and showing how Sister City relationships translate into tangible economic growth and collaboration.”
