ClassCover to create 20 jobs in Ireland in €3m expansion

ClassCover will invest €3m and create 20 jobs in Ireland as the Australian education technology firm targets 2,000 schools with its booking platform.

Australian education technology company ClassCover is investing €3 million in Ireland and plans to create 20 jobs over the next three years as it expands into the Irish market.

The Sydney-headquartered company, which operates a substitute teacher booking platform, said the investment will support local hiring, increase awareness of its services among Irish schools and help tailor the platform to local requirements.

“Through our extensive network of educators, we’ve heard first-hand about the challenges schools in Ireland are facing in finding substitute teachers”

The Irish expansion marks ClassCover’s first major move into the European market and forms part of the company’s broader international growth strategy.

ClassCover intends to recruit across sales, marketing, partnerships and customer support as it builds its Irish presence. The company has also set a target of onboarding 2,000 schools over the next three years, representing almost half of Ireland’s schools.

Top of the class

Founded in 2011 by CEO Ben Grozier, ClassCover was developed to help school leaders quickly find and book substitute teachers and special needs assistants through a real-time digital platform.

The company says its technology enables schools to view teacher availability instantly and confirm bookings within minutes, helping schools manage staff absences more efficiently.

ClassCover has established a significant presence in Australia, where more than 5,000 schools and 200,000 teachers and SNAs use the platform. The company facilitates more than 500,000 bookings annually and expects that figure to reach 650,000 over the next 12 months following the addition of 1,300 schools earlier this year.

The company believes similar demand exists in Ireland, where many schools still rely on phone calls and messaging apps to arrange substitute cover.

ClassCover said its platform was developed to provide a secure and compliant alternative, with a focus on protecting user data and meeting EU data protection requirements.

The official Irish launch is scheduled for later this month, beginning with a pilot programme across Dublin schools. The platform has been adapted for the Irish market following research and consultation with local educators.

The company has already started building its Irish team, with many recruits bringing experience as teachers and school principals.

“This expansion into the Irish market is a natural fit, with Ireland and Australia sharing a deep, historic bond,” said Ben Grozier, CEO of ClassCover. “Through our extensive network of educators, we’ve heard first-hand about the challenges schools in Ireland are facing in finding substitute teachers, a challenge Australia knows all too well.”

Grozier said the platform is designed to help schools connect more effectively with available substitute teachers and SNAs.

“While this platform won’t fix the teacher supply crisis on its own, it will ensure that every sub and SNA who is available and ready to work can actually be found by the schools that need them. We’ve spent over a decade perfecting this model and it’s clear the Irish market is ready for it.”

He added: “Bringing ClassCover to Ireland marks a major milestone for our company as we expand our international footprint and build our presence in a country widely regarded as having one of Europe’s best education systems.”
