Ambitious plan to transform Irish businesses through AI

CeADAR unveils plans to accelerate AI adoption across Irish businesses.

Ireland’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence CeADAR has revealed an ambitious expansion plan to accelerate AI adoption across the country, emphasising the transformative opportunities that AI offers to businesses in all sectors.

CeADAR plays a pivotal role in supporting both enterprises and public sector organisations throughout Ireland to understand and implement data analytics and AI solutions.

“With huge changes in the way data can be collected and used, it is more important than ever that Irish businesses understand and grasp the transformative opportunities that AI offers across all business verticals”

Minister for Trade Promotion, AI and Digital Transformation, Niamh Smyth, TD, visited CeADAR’s offices at University College Dublin (UCD), where she was briefed on the centre’s strategic initiatives to support Irish enterprises in leveraging AI technologies.

Keeping Irish firms competitive in a changing world

“The rapidly evolving international economic landscape underscores the critical role of competitiveness in fostering sustainable growth in our enterprise sectors,” Minister Smyth said during her visit.

“The continuous adoption and deployment of new AI technologies is critical to driving the competitiveness of Irish businesses in international markets.”

The Minister, who was appointed in January as Ireland’s first Minister of State with a specific portfolio concerning AI, is currently meeting with key stakeholders regarding the Government’s initiative to increase AI system adoption across business and industry sectors.

During the ministerial visit, CeADAR officials demonstrated how the centre helps organizations explore, experiment with, and integrate AI into their products and processes.

Dr. John Lonsdale, CEO of CeADAR, expressed his enthusiasm about the ministerial visit, stating: “It has been a great pleasure to have Minister Niamh Smyth visit us here today to see firsthand the work CeADAR is doing to accelerate the adoption of AI and machine learning by Irish businesses and public sector organisations.”

Dr. Lonsdale emphasised the importance of Irish businesses understanding the opportunities presented by AI: “With huge changes in the way data can be collected and used, it is more important than ever that Irish businesses understand and grasp the transformative opportunities that AI offers across all business verticals.”

The CEO also welcomed the Government’s decision to assign specific ministerial responsibility for AI, noting that it would help “accelerate adoption of these rapidly evolving technologies.”

Minister Smyth highlighted that AI adoption is not only important for internationally trading businesses but also for domestic enterprises: “Equally important is our ambition to drive more AI adoption among domestically trading and locally trading business, as it will help save business owners time, money and make them more productive and competitive.”

The meeting included senior representatives from both CeADAR and UCD, including Dr. Ricardo Simon Carbajo, Director of Innovation & Development at CeADAR, and Professor Kate Robson Brown, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Impact at UCD.

As Ireland continues to position itself as a technology hub, CeADAR’s expansion plans represent a significant step in ensuring Irish businesses remain competitive through the strategic implementation of AI technologies.
