Galway’s VERSONO slays the medtech Dragons

VERSONO Medical wins Dragons’ Den Innovation Prize for its breakthrough FastWire System.

US and Galway business VERSONO Medical Ltd has been named the Dragons’ Den winner of the CX Innovation Prize at the prestigious CX Symposium in London, beating rival firms from the US, Germany, Israel, and Singapore.

The medtech impressed a panel of industry experts with its FastWire Technology Platform, a breakthrough device designed to treat chronic complex total occlusions (CTOs) in arteries.

“This is one of the prestige events in the field of vascular and endovascular treatment and we are thrilled to be selected as the standout candidates in a highly competitive group of companies developing innovative technologies”

The FastWire System utilises proprietary ultrasonic technology to cross through severe, complex blockages in patients’ arteries, both above and below the knee, for those suffering from Critical Limb Threatening Ischemia (CLTI). The device aims to increase success rates in previously untreatable cases and reduce the risk of amputations through improved endovascular techniques.

“It’s an honour to win the Dragons’ Den innovation prize at the CX Symposium in London,” said VERSONO CEO Finbar Dolan.

“This is one of the prestige events in the field of vascular and endovascular treatment and we are thrilled to be selected as the standout candidates in a highly competitive group of companies developing innovative technologies.”

The victory came after Dolan presented the company’s plans for the FastWire Technology Platform, including progress on its FREEFLOW pivotal study currently being conducted at three specialised centres in the United States: the Vascular Institute of the Midwest in Iowa, the Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Louisiana, and the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga in Tennessee.

Subject to successful completion of this FDA-approved Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study, VERSONO Medical will seek US market approval to launch the FastWire System.

The judging panel, referred to as “Dragons” in the competition format, included Robert Mitchell, General Manager of global healthcare company Organon; Prof. Frans Moll, vascular surgeon; Prof. Tilo Kolbel, Director of the German Aortic Centre in Hamburg; Jeffrey B. Jump, founder of Casper-Medical; and Charles Taylor, CEO of Veryan Medical. Baron Stephen Greenhalgh chaired the event.

The Charing Cross Symposium, held from April 23-25 at the ExCeL in London, brings together world-leading experts in vascular and endovascular disease treatment every three years. The event focuses on education, innovation, and evidence-based approaches to advancing the field.
