Irish edtech platform Spellings for Me expands to 25 countries with AI-enhanced learning system.
Spellings for Me, a personalised spelling education platform originally designed for Irish primary schools, has successfully launched Version 2 of its system, expanding its reach to international schools across 25 countries.
The upgraded platform, developed in collaboration with technology partner TEKenable, uses artificial intelligence to provide personalised learning experiences tailored to individual student needs.
“Our mission is to transform how children learn to spell by offering an innovative spelling curriculum that combines the best in spelling training with interactive spelling games”
The platform now serves over 90,000 pupils annually, with significant growth following the launch of its enhanced version.
How to spell success
“The international growth potential of this platform has been greatly enhanced by TEKenable’s use of AI to enable regionalisation resulting in sign-ups from International schools in 25 countries since the launch of the revamped platform,” said Paddy Grace, co-owner of Spellings for Me.
Originally created for the Irish market, the platform gained international attention as teachers relocated abroad and continued using the system. However, early limitations including Irish-accented audio files and scalability issues prompted the development of Version 2, which now offers 10 different English accents to better serve diverse learning environments.
The platform has found particular success with schools teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL).
“Many of the Version 2 adopters teach English as an Additional Language, and Spellings for Me is now live in international schools across Spain, Finland, Greece, China (Wuhan), Hong Kong, France, Germany, Portugal, Japan, India, Jordan, UAE, Sweden, Egypt, Ghana, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Chile, Uruguay, Turkmenistan, and more,” Grace explained.
Version 2 introduces several key improvements, including a fully managed web application hosted on Microsoft Azure for global scalability, enhanced user interface design with gamification features, advanced reporting tools, and AI-powered voice technology supporting accents from American, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Tanzanian, Indian, and Nigerian variants of English.
The company has also launched a homeschool version, allowing parents to purchase the programme directly. Looking ahead, Spellings for Me is developing an AI reporting engine that will provide teachers and parents with pattern recognition capabilities to identify potential learning differences, including early indicators for dyslexia risk.
“Spellings for Me supports students worldwide, including EAL learners and international schools, with a tailored spelling programme designed for diverse learning needs,” Grace added. “It allows teachers and parents to monitor their growth over time, building confidence and motivation.”
The ABCs of scaling
The platform’s success has been recognised nationally, with Spellings for Me selected as the Tipperary representative for the National Enterprise Awards 2025.
Founded by teachers Paddy and Emma Grace, who have experience in learning support and EAL instruction, Spellings for Me was inspired by the work of Brendan Colligan, an advocate of individualised spelling instruction for over 30 years.
“Our mission is to transform how children learn to spell by offering an innovative spelling curriculum that combines the best in spelling training with interactive spelling games,” Grace explained. “Our personalised approach ensures each child has the support they need to succeed in their spelling journey.”
Grace praised the technical partnership with TEKenable: “When we set the Spellings for Me challenge, TEKenable always exceeded our expectations. No problem is too big. They have never let us down, they’re just so competent.”
TEKenable, an Irish technology and services company specialising in AI and data solutions, provided the technical expertise for the platform’s transformation. The company focuses on delivering cloud-based solutions for business transformation and holds partnerships with Microsoft and Salesforce.
