Impact of AI on education to be explored

The jury is out on whether AI will be disruptive or empowering for the future of education. The thorny subject will be explored in Dublin at Learnovation 2023.

Dublin-based and globally-focused learning research hub Learnovate Centre will be tackling the thorny subject of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of learning at its annual Learnovation Summit in October.

Taking place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Thursday 5 October, the theme will be ‘Learner Disruption | Technology Evolution’, with speakers focusing on the benefits and limitations of AI for learning as well as other emerging trends in learning technology.

The event will be hosted by Dr Nigel Paine, Global Thought Leader and former CLO of the BBC.

Global experts debate AI

Keynote speakers include: Dr Patricia Scanlon, Ireland’s first AI ambassador and founder of SoapBox Labs; Dr Jen Ross, co-director of the Centre for Research in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh; and Nick Shackleton-Jones, founder of Shackleton Consulting.

Other speakers include Victoria Nxumalo, Founder and Executive Director of the Girls In STEM Trust; Ryan Laverty, Co-Founder and President of Arist; Janet Benson, Learning Lead and Senior Researcher at Learnovate; Leo Zhadanovsky, Chief Technologist for Education at Amazon Web Services (AWS); Peter Gillis, Innovation Team Lead, Senior Researcher at Learnovate; and Francis McKeagney, Head of Digital Learning at Hibernia College.

Along with a schedule of Q&A sessions and workshops, there will also be panel discussions chaired by Brendan Noud, Co-Founder and CEO of LearnUpon; and Paul McElvaney, Founder and Executive Chair of Learning Pool; featuring panellists including Greta Stahl, Senior Director of Enterprise Learning and Development at Workday; John Kilroy, Founder and CPO at Digital Learning Institute; Dr Arlene Egan, Chief Executive Officer at Roffey Park Institute; and Dr Conor Gaffney, Chief Product Officer of ETU.
