New 5,500 sq m facility at Emyvale headquarters will lift capacity to 120,000 ducks a week and support long-term jobs growth.
Silver Hill Duck has formally marked the start of construction on a new state-of-the-art processing facility at its headquarters in Emyvale, Co Monaghan, signalling a significant next phase in the family-owned company’s long-term growth plans.
The commencement was celebrated at an on-site event attended by Minister of State Niamh Smyth, TD, along with representatives from Enterprise Ireland, Monaghan County Council and local public representatives. The project is supported by grant assistance from Enterprise Ireland under its Capital Investment Scheme.
“This investment will significantly enhance our capacity and capabilities … while maintaining the premium quality for which Silver Hill Duck is known worldwide”
When completed, the new processing plant will span approximately 5,500 square metres and will allow Silver Hill Duck to increase weekly output from around 80,000 ducks to 120,000. The expansion is designed to help meet rising demand in both domestic and international markets while maintaining the company’s focus on quality, food safety and operational efficiency.
From hatch to dispatch
Managing director Micheál Briody described the development as a defining moment for the business.
“The commencement of this new processing facility marks a major step forward for our business,” he said.
“This investment will significantly enhance our capacity and capabilities, supporting our continued growth in international markets while maintaining the premium quality for which Silver Hill Duck is known worldwide. Importantly, it also reflects our long-standing commitment to the local community and the region that has supported us for generations.”
The project is expected to deliver clear economic benefits for the Monaghan region. Employment will be supported during the construction phase, with a range of new permanent roles to be created once the facility becomes operational. Positions are expected across production, engineering and support services, contributing to skills development and long-term local employment.
Mark Christal, Executive Director at Enterprise Ireland, said the investment would strengthen Silver Hill Duck’s competitiveness and export potential.
“This investment in a new production facility will enable Silver Hill to increase productivity and boost its competitiveness, allowing the company to expand capacity to diversify into overseas markets,” he said.
“At Enterprise Ireland, we know it is crucial for Irish companies to stay competitive in order to grow nationally and globally. Through the Capital Investment Scheme, enabled by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, we are delighted to support Silver Hill’s commitment to increased productivity and sustainable practices.”
The new plant will incorporate advanced processing technologies aimed at improving efficiency and supporting more sustainable operations across the business. Silver Hill Duck said the development will also strengthen its operational base in Emyvale, where the company has deep roots and a long-standing presence.
Construction is now underway, with the facility expected to be completed by summer 2027.
