Primark takes Manhattan with new flagship store

Irish retailer marks major US milestone with Manhattan opening on Herald Square, aimed at commuters, tourists and local shoppers.

Penneys owners Primark has opened a landmark flagship store at Herald Square in Manhattan, marking a significant step in the Irish fashion retailer’s expansion across the United States.

The new store, located in the heart of the city’s Penn District, spans more than 54,000 square feet of retail space and is Primark’s eleventh location in New York State.

“Our flagship at Herald Square is a defining moment for Primark’s US growth story”

The opening brings the retailer directly into one of the world’s busiest shopping districts, serving a mix of daily commuters, international tourists and local residents.

Primark first entered the US market in 2015 with a store in Downtown Crossing in Boston. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its footprint and now operates 40 stores across 13 states. Recent openings include locations in Miami, Florida, Grapevine, Katy and Hurst in Texas, and Gurnee, Illinois.

Sharing the Penneys magic

Kevin Tulip, President of Primark US, said the Herald Square opening represents an important milestone for the business.

“Our flagship at Herald Square is a defining moment for Primark’s US growth story,” he said. “New York is a city where trends are born and where style is worn with unstoppable confidence. Great style should not come with an impossible price tag, and that is where Primark comes in. From quality styles to value prices, we are inviting every NYC shopper to our Manhattan doorstep as we open our doors in the epicenter of American fashion.”

The flagship offers Primark’s full clothing and accessories range for women, men and children, alongside everyday essentials, gifts and travel items. Pricing remains central to the brand’s proposition, with women’s denim starting at $12, men’s T-shirts at $5, and children’s sweatshirts priced at $8. The retailer says these price points allow families to outfit each member for less than $50.

Primark marked the opening with a full-day celebration at Herald Square. The store launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an outdoor block party featuring food from New York favorites including Liberty Bagels, Sigmund’s Pretzels and NYC Kettle Corn.

Entertainment for attendees included live performances by Fusion Fighters, blending Irish step dancing with hip-hop. The performances reflected Primark’s Irish roots while connecting with the cultural energy of New York.
