Risky business: Gamma acquired by KatRisk

Acquisition of Irish location firm Gamma by global catastrophe-modelling player Katrisk will power more precise risk insights.

KatRisk, a leading provider of catastrophic risk modeling software for the insurance and financial services industries, has acquired Dublin-based Gamma for an undisclosed sum.

Gamma is a specialist in location intelligence and property-level risk assessment.

“Our combined strengths in catastrophe modelling and location intelligence will empower insurers and underwriters to make smarter, faster risk decisions with greater confidence”

The acquisition strengthens KatRisk’s ability to deliver precise risk insights through next-generation technologies.

The business of catastrophes

The deal combines KatRisk’s expertise in catastrophe modeling with Gamma’s property-level visualisation capabilities, allowing insurance clients to access more intuitive map-based risk insights and enhanced spatial analytics.

“Our acquisition of Gamma is a major step forward in our mission to provide the most comprehensive, high-resolution risk data available,” said Brandon Katz, EVP of Strategy at KatRisk.

“By combining our catastrophic risk models across floods, storms, and fire with Gamma’s location intelligence capabilities, we will deliver an even more powerful suite of tools that improves risk selection, reduces loss ratios, and enhances underwriting efficiency.”

Gamma’s flagship platform Perilfinder is widely recognised as a leading address-level risk assessment, exposure management, and underwriting solution.

The platform was developed in partnership with some of the world’s largest general insurers and will now be integrated into KatRisk’s product offerings.

Feargal O’Neill, CEO of Gamma, expressed enthusiasm about the merger: “The combination of Gamma and KatRisk represents an exciting opportunity for our customers and partners. Joining KatRisk gives us access to the world’s leading catastrophe modelers, while opening global markets for Perilfinder.

“Together, our combined strengths in catastrophe modelling and location intelligence will empower insurers and underwriters to make smarter, faster risk decisions with greater confidence.”

Industry analysts note that the acquisition significantly expands KatRisk’s global footprint, combining its strong presence in North America with Gamma’s European expertise.

The move is seen as particularly timely as insurers worldwide face increasing pressure to improve risk assessment capabilities amid rising climate-related catastrophes.

The acquisition builds on strategic investments in KatRisk and its parent company, Technosylva, by private equity firms TA Associates and General Atlantic BeyondNetZero.
