Deloitte acquires Ennis firm Cahill Taxation

Acquisition reflects resurgence of business across the Mid-West.

Deloitte Ireland has acquired Ennis-based tax firm Cahill Taxation Services to create the largest tax practice in the Limerick/Ennis region.

The acquisition will grow Deloitte’s Mid-West tax practice to 45 people and the local office to over 150 people strengthening Deloitte Private’s services, particularly for family businesses, privately-owned companies and high net worth individuals.

“I see this as a natural evolution of our growth story”

Cahill Taxation Services is a well-established tax practice that provides a range of tax services related to retirement and succession planning, sell side tax advisory, property transactions and revenue audits. The principal of Cahill Taxation Services, Fergal Cahill, will join Deloitte as a Tax Partner within the Deloitte Private offering.

The Mid-West is rising

“This is a landmark announcement for us today that reflects the current resurgence of business across the Mid-West,” said Cahill.

“Having started Cahill Taxation Services 15 years ago and built a vibrant tax practice in the Mid-West I see this as a natural evolution of our growth story. Combining forces with Deloitte to become the biggest tax advisory team in the region enables us to deliver a wider range of services to our clients across various industries.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to join a global leader to help propel even more local businesses forward. I have been blessed with loyal clients and staff and this exciting development is a testimony to their support of my business throughout the past 15 years.”

Deloitte is the largest global professional services and consulting firm with nearly 3,000 people in Ireland providing Audit & Assurance, Tax, Consulting, Risk and Financial Advisory services to public and private clients spanning multiple industries.

It has more than a quarter of its Irish workforce located across its regional offices in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Belfast.

Harry Goddard, CEO, Deloitte Ireland said: “This is a significant milestone in our business as we expand our tax practice in the Mid-West to create the largest tax practice in the region. I’m delighted to welcome Fergal and his team to Deloitte, building on the strength and depth of our experience and enhancing our overall offering to private sector clients. I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will bring to our team.”

The acquisition is expected to come into effect on 1 June 2022.

Karen Frawley, International Tax Partner and Deloitte Limerick Head of Tax said: “We’ve seen tremendous growth opportunities in the Mid-West over the last number of years across both our multinational and private clients and this strengthens our services in the Mid-West region, growing our headcount to 45 specialist tax practitioners.

“Fergal and his team bring tremendous experience working with family-owned businesses and high-net worth individuals and this, combined with Deloitte’s industry expertise, makes a compelling service offering for Mid-West-based businesses. At a national level this enhances our position as one of the leading firms advising Irish owned family businesses and private clients.”
