Expansion by Irish engineering firm BMC underscores strength of indigenous manufacturing sector. Enterprise Ireland has reported €38.9bn in exports as companies spend €120m a day in domestic economy.
Meath electrical engineering business BMC Manufacturing is to create 500 new jobs in Ireland over the next two years as part of a significant expansion backed by Enterprise Ireland.
The announcement coincided with data from Enterprise Ireland that shows Ireland’s indigenous industries are operating at full velocity with €38.9bn in exports achieved last year.
“We are a proudly Irish company, and we are committed to working with our partners and valued clients to continue to deliver innovative and much needed solutions for critical global infrastructure”
BMC said the new roles will be filled by the end of 2028 across its Dublin and Meath operations, spanning engineering, technology and operational functions.
Powering the digital future
Peter Burke, TD, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, welcomed the expansion.
“The Government, working with our colleagues from Enterprise Ireland and from across the enterprise ecosystem, is committed to supporting Irish companies to scale and become global leaders in their field, and BMC Manufacturing is a clear reflection of that,” Minister Burke said.
“From starting out as a small company in Co Meath, to now having their technology used across the world, BMC Manufacturing is a true Irish success story. I’d like to congratulate Brendan, Colm and all their team on this significant milestone, and wish them the best with this new chapter in their journey.”
The expansion reflects growing global demand for its power infrastructure systems used in critical digital environments such as data centres, including industry partners Amazon Web Services (AWS).
BMC Manufacturing, founded in Co Meath in 1991, is a leading Irish electrical engineering company, delivering innovations in the area of low voltage switchgear and critical power solutions.
Brendan Meehan, Founder and Chairman, BMC Manufacturing, said: “We are delighted today to announce details of the significant expansion of our operations here in Ireland, with the creation of an additional 500 new jobs by the end of 2028.
“We are a proudly Irish company, and we are committed to working with our partners and valued clients to continue to deliver innovative and much needed solutions for critical global infrastructure, which are shaping the future by powering evolving technology and digital solutions. This expanded workforce will strengthen our operations and drive further growth, and we are delighted to have received significant support to enable this from Enterprise Ireland.”
Commenting on AWS’s work with BMC Manufacturing, Niamh Gallagher, Country Lead for AWS in Ireland, said: “Since opening our first infrastructure region in Ireland almost two decades ago, AWS has helped support a thriving local supplier network, creating real opportunities for Irish businesses to grow their expertise in international markets. BMC Manufacturing is a great example of that.
“The creation of 500 new jobs speaks to the depth of talent within Ireland’s manufacturing sector, and we’re proud to play a part in driving this growth.”
Enterprising times
The news of BMC’s expansion coincided with the publication of Enterprise Ireland’s annual results for 2025,
, which found that companies it supports achieved record exports last year of €38.86bn.
An increase of 8% on the year prior, exports from Enterprise Ireland’s client companies have increased significantly over the last decade, up 89% since 2015 when they were €20.6bn.
Enterprise Ireland also confirmed that expenditure by its client base in the Irish economy in 2025 had also reached a record high, with its clients spending €43.73bn here last year- almost €120m per day- on payroll, goods and services.
Among our client base’s exports in 2025, growth was recorded across Enterprise Ireland’s three main sectors, with increases across all major markets.
Exports to Europe and the UK both exceeded €11bn for the first time, and these two markets now account for 29% of all exports each. Exports to North America remained steady and it continues to be the third largest market for our client base, with exports there growing to €7.34bn in 2025, a 1% increase on the year prior.
The Nordics also saw a significant increase in exports to the region, increasing by 39% to €2.78bn. Driven largely by a significant increase in High-Tech Construction exports to the region, the Nordics now account for a total of 7% of Enterprise Ireland’s client exports, more than double the 3% total in 2015.
Enterprise Ireland’s three key sectors all saw steady and positive growth in 2025:
- Food, Drink, Nutrition and ClimateTech exports reached €16.98bn (+5%)
- Advanced Manufacturing, Construction & Lifesciences exports rose to €13.16bn (+14%)
- Technology, Services & Consumer exports hit €8.72bn (+5%)
Among these sectors, particularly strong performances were recorded by the High-Tech Construction and Climate Tech & Renewable Energy portfolios, as both saw increases of 24% in exports last year. There were strong performances from Digital Technologies companies, with exports rising by 12%.
Congratulating BMC Manufacturing, Jenny Melia, CEO, Enterprise Ireland, said: “It is Enterprise Ireland’s long-term ambition that Irish-owned companies will become the primary driver of the Irish economy, and it is ambitious leaders like Brendan and Colm who will help us to realise this goal.
“Supporting indigenous Irish exporters to start, grow and compete is our focus, and working with them to scale in overseas markets and become a global leader is a priority for me. BMC Manufacturing is the epitome of that, an Irish company with global ambition who have established trusted partnerships with leading global firms. I want to congratulate all the team for their success, and Enterprise Ireland is proud to be on this journey with them.”
