Irish pillar bank has begun informing customers about the new app, with the rollout getting underway over the coming weeks.
Bank of Ireland is preparing to launch a redesigned mobile banking app aimed at making everyday banking faster, simpler and more intuitive for its customers.
The Bank has begun communicating with customers ahead of the rollout, which will start over the coming weeks. Android users will receive access first, followed by customers using iOS devices.
The app, which is the Bank’s most widely used channel, has been redesigned around how customers manage their money day to day. The result is a smoother, more intuitive experience, with improved performance, stronger privacy controls and more straightforward navigation.
The launch follows recent digital innovations introduced by the bank, including Zippay and SEPA Instant.
Quick, clear, reliable
Customers will notice changes from the moment they sign in. Common tasks such as checking balances, making payments and managing cards have been streamlined.
The Bank has also expanded biometric security features, enabling customers to use fingerprint or facial recognition not only to log in, but also to approve payments, add cards to a digital wallet, view PINs and add new payees.
“Our customers expect banking to be quick, clear and reliable, especially on the mobile,” said Susan Russell, CEO, Retail Ireland at Bank of Ireland.
“We have started communications with customers to let them know the rollout kicks off soon. The new app will make everyday tasks simpler, giving customers better visibility and control over their money, and improving accessibility so more people can use the app in a way that suits them.
The new app includes a range of enhancements designed to help customers manage their finances more effectively. These include clearer account views with larger balance displays, continuous transaction scrolling and daily running totals. Customers will also benefit from simplified payee management, easier standing order adjustments and enhanced card controls, including the ability to freeze or unfreeze cards instantly.
Additional features include Dark Mode, improved accessibility settings such as adjustable font sizes, and device management tools that allow customers to view, rename or remove devices linked to their account.
Customers will also be able to open Smart Start, MortgageSaver and Super Saver accounts directly through the app.
For families, parents and guardians will gain greater oversight of their children’s Smart Start accounts, including transaction visibility, spend alerts, the ability to transfer money into the account and the option to freeze a child’s card at any time.
“We looked closely at how customers actually use the app and designed it around those real-life moments,” Russell added. “Whether it is checking a balance on the go, sending money quickly or managing cards, the app now works more smoothly and intuitively. Enhancements such as adjustable text sizes and improved accessibility standards are an important part of this, and reflect the wider work we are doing to make our services more accessible, including through our ATM and branch network.”
Ciarán Coyle, group chief operating officer at Bank of Ireland, said the investment reflects the growing importance of digital banking to customers.
“Our customers rely on our mobile app more than ever, with around 30 million log-ins every month, so it is essential that it delivers a fast, simple and reliable experience,” Coyle said. “This new platform will represent a step change for what is now our most used channel, both in how the app performs for customers and how quickly we can continue to improve it.
“It will enable us to introduce new features more quickly, while continuing to strengthen security and performance. This new app builds on important innovations we’ve delivered such as Zippay and SEPA Instant, and highlights the pace at which Bank of Ireland is delivering meaningful change for customers.”
