Applegreen to open Ireland’s first Taco Bell this summer

Plans to expand Taco Bell to multiple Applegreen sites across Ireland over next five years.

Applegreen has confirmed a new partnership agreement with US-based Taco Bell to open Ireland’s first Mexican-inspired restaurant from the global chain this summer.

The first location will open in the coming months, with plans to expand to multiple Applegreen sites across Ireland over the next five years as part of the Irish company’s €1bn expansion programme.

“We are constantly investing in our locations, and I’m sure Irish consumers will be very excited at the arrival of Taco Bell”

“We are really excited to announce this partnership to launch the iconic Taco Bell brand in Ireland,” said Seamus Stapleton, managing director of Applegreen’s Republic of Ireland business.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to bringing world-class roadside hospitality to our customers, offering them greater choice and quality while they travel. We are constantly investing in our locations, and I’m sure Irish consumers will be very excited at the arrival of Taco Bell.”

Bold new flavours

The California-based chain, known for menu items such as the Crunchy Taco, Burritos, Quesadillas, Nachos, and the Crunchwrap Supreme, currently operates more than 8,700 restaurants worldwide.

Matthew Johnson, New Market lead for Taco Bell Europe, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: “We are thrilled to bring Taco Bell’s innovative and flavourful menu to Ireland. This expansion is a testament to our commitment to growing our brand globally and delivering exceptional dining experiences to new markets.”

Johnson added: “We believe that our unique offering will resonate with consumers in Ireland, providing a new and exciting dining option that celebrates bold flavours and a fun, vibrant atmosphere.”

This isn’t the first collaboration between the two companies. Applegreen has recently introduced Taco Bell restaurants at several of its Welcome Break motorway service areas in the UK.

The Irish expansion is part of Applegreen’s broader growth strategy, which includes developing existing sites and adding new locations across Ireland, the UK, and the United States.

The company typically invests over €30m annually in the Irish market for new openings and improvements.

Applegreen, which opened its first service station in Ballyfermot, Dublin in 1992, now operates almost 200 locations in Ireland and more than 430 globally.

The company employs approximately 16,000 people, reported a turnover of nearly €4bn last year, and serves about 180m customers annually.

In addition to expanding its food offerings, Applegreen is planning a major €85m investment to further develop its EV charging networks.
