Billionaire Mark Cuban backs Irish sports tech Orreco

55 new jobs as Orreco Secures $4m to scale AI sports technology globally.

Galway-based sports technology firm Orreco has raised $4 million in fresh funding to accelerate its AI-driven performance solutions for elite athletes.

The round includes participation from Enterprise Ireland, entrepreneur and billionaire tech investor Mark Cuban, professional athletes and existing backers.

“This is the first proactive approach to use AI to help reduce injury risk. It’s great today and only going to get better”

The investment will support the creation of 55 new roles worldwide, with 30 positions in Galway over the next two years. Enterprise Ireland contributed $1 million to the round, underscoring its commitment to Ireland’s growing sports tech sector.

Founded by Dr Brian Moore (pictured above), Orreco combines applied physiology, biostatistics and cognitive computing to provide actionable insights that help athletes sustain peak performance and reduce injury risk. Its clients include teams and athletes across the Premier League, NBA, NHL, WNBA, WSL, NWSL, PGA Tour, Liga MX and Olympic sports.

Dr Moore said the funding and acquisition mark a pivotal moment for the company. “Mark’s investment is a powerful endorsement of the science and technology we’ve been building. Combined with Enterprise Ireland’s support and DDSA’s expertise, we are in the strongest position we’ve ever been to scale AI-powered performance intelligence globally.”

The company has also acquired Melbourne-based Data Driven Sports Analytics (DDSA), a specialist in AI computer vision. DDSA counts world number one tennis player Aryna Sabalenka among its long-standing clients.

“DDSA has been a huge part of how I analyse opponents and make better decisions on court,” Sabalenka said. “Teaming up with Orreco brings two leaders together with one vision: helping athletes be ready to win.”

The acquisition strengthens Orreco’s development of Motion Signal, a next-generation AI tool that uses computer vision and machine learning to detect changes in athlete movement patterns.

The technology aims to identify early indicators of injury risk, particularly for non-contact injuries such as hamstring strains and ACL tears. Trials have already taken place in the English Premier League and with official NBA datasets, with a new initiative scheduled with Major League Soccer next month.

“This is the first proactive approach to use AI to help reduce injury risk. It’s great today and only going to get better,” said Mark Cuban, co-owner of the Dallas Mavericks and a prominent tech investor.

Orreco’s algorithms, developed by a team of 10 PhDs, also assist in rehabilitation and return-to-play strategies. The company is part of Comcast NBCUniversal’s SportsTech innovation portfolio and participated in its 2025 cohort.

“Orreco earned its place in our SportsTech class through proven results,” said Jenna Kurath, vice president of sports venture partnerships at Comcast. “Their AI-driven performance technology delivered measurable value with the Philadelphia Flyers.”

Existing investors include True Ventures, Jason Calacanis, 20VC, professional golfers Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell, NBA agent Todd Ramasar, NHL agent and Olympic medallist Allain Roy, alongside prominent Irish executives.

Orreco pointed to Irish state agency Enterprise Ireland which it noted is one of Europe’s most active sports tech investors with 19 ventures backed since 2024, more than triple the next closest investor.

“Enterprise Ireland’s investment is an endorsement of Orreco’s incredible technology, team and global reach,” said Keith Brock, head of the agency’s sports tech portfolio. “It also highlights the strength of Ireland’s sports tech cluster, which ranks first in Europe for VC investment on a per capita basis.”
