Deal strengthens Viatel’s secure network infrastructure capabilities across Ireland and the UK as demand for AI-ready connectivity grows.
Viatel Technology Group has acquired UK network infrastructure specialist EDNX for an undisclosed sum.
The move strengthens its position as one of Ireland’s largest secure network providers and expands its capability to support organisations across the UK.
“Networks are no longer just infrastructure. They are the foundations for security, resilience and AI adoption”
The acquisition brings Shropshire-based EDNX into the Viatel group, adding specialist expertise in enterprise networking, network infrastructure, campus networks, secure IoT, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, SD-Access and application-centric infrastructure.
Securing networks in the AI age
The deal follows Viatel’s acquisition of Scottish cybersecurity specialist FullProxy in July and represents a further step in the group’s strategy to build a comprehensive secure digital infrastructure business serving organisations across Ireland and the UK.
The acquisition also strengthens Viatel’s Cisco practice, bringing together two Cisco Premier Partners with significant experience in enterprise networking. The enlarged group aims to support both public and private sector customers across both markets.
Paul Rellis, CEO of Viatel Technology Group, said the role of network infrastructure is evolving rapidly as organisations embrace new technologies and increasing volumes of data.
“Networks are no longer just infrastructure. They are the foundations for security, resilience and AI adoption. The ability to move data securely, efficiently and at scale will increasingly determine which businesses lead and which fall behind.
“EDNX brings exceptional expertise and a strong track record of delivering enterprise networking solutions in some of the most demanding environments. Their technical capability complements our existing strengths in connectivity, cybersecurity and managed services while creating new opportunities to bring advanced networking services to our customers.
“I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the EDNX team, customers and partners as they join the Viatel Technology Group. Together, we are creating an even stronger business for our customers and our people.”
David Ratcliffe, CEO of EDNX, said the transaction would allow the company to broaden its reach while maintaining its established customer-focused approach.
“Over many years, we have built EDNX around deep technical expertise and a commitment to delivering network infrastructure that supports critical outcomes.
“Joining Viatel gives our customers access to broader capabilities while preserving the technical excellence and customer focus that have defined EDNX. We see strong alignment in our cultures, our ambitions and our long-term commitment to customer success.
“The combination also creates exciting opportunities to bring our specialist enterprise networking, infrastructure, secure IoT, campus network and Cisco capabilities to organisations across Ireland while supporting continued growth throughout the UK market.”
