Grá for a taste of home powers global shipping surge for The Paddy Box. Diaspora demand sends tea and classic Irish treats around the world ahead of St Patrick’s Day.
As St Patrick’s Day approaches and Irish flags appear from Meath to Melbourne, a familiar craving is spreading across the global Irish diaspora.
The Paddy Box, the Dublin based gifting company that ships Irish food and staples worldwide, reports that a bag of Tayto now leaves Ireland every 30 minutes as demand accelerates in the run up to 17 March.
“These figures reveal something deeper than consumer trends. They show loyalty, nostalgia and identity”
New annual figures published by the company show the scale of the trade in nostalgia. Customers ordered 18,000 multipacks of Tayto Cheese & Onion over the past year, along with 17,000 boxes of Irish tea and tens of thousands of curated hampers containing the staples of the Irish cupboard. The business has found that while many Irish citizens move abroad, their preferred snacks travel with them.
Australia emerged as the company’s largest overseas market, with 7,827 orders in the past year. The United States followed with 5,088 shipments. Although the company is best known as a provider to the diaspora, Ireland itself accounted for 2,435 orders as domestic customers used the platform to send gifts at home or abroad. Strong demand also came from the UK and Canada.
A taste for home

Within Ireland, the appetite for such deliveries varied by county. Meath ranked first nationally on a per capita basis, ahead of Mayo and Kildare. Cork performed more strongly than Dublin when adjusted for population, reflecting the service’s popularity across both urban and rural areas.
Across all markets, the most commonly ordered item was the Custom Paddy Box, which allows customers to curate their own selection. The company said the five most frequently chosen products globally were Tayto Cheese & Onion multipacks, boxes of Barry’s or Lyons tea, Cadbury Purple Snack bars, Ballymaloe Relish and Gateaux Mini Rolls.
Corporate orders have also expanded as businesses use the service to connect with staff and clients during the St Patrick’s Day period. The Paddy Box said that Irish and multinational companies were increasingly sending boxes to employees overseas, newly relocated staff and remote teams with Irish backgrounds, as well as to international clients participating in March celebrations.
Mark Loftus, founder of The Paddy Box, said that the service had become a way for Irish people to re‑establish a “simple but powerful” emotional connection with home. “There is something special about opening a box filled with the food you grew up with. One cup of Irish tea or one packet of Tayto can transport you straight home,” he said. “Seeing a Tayto multipack leave every 30 minutes shows how strong that connection remains. These figures reveal something deeper than consumer trends. They show loyalty, nostalgia and identity.”
Loftus added that the company had maintained rapid shipping times despite global challenges in logistics. He said the group’s partnership with DHL allowed it to deliver to Europe and New York within one to two working days, and to Sydney within three to four.
Ciara Hynes, brand, marketing and communication manager at DHL, said the delivery group was “proud to deliver a piece of Ireland to customers around the world”. She added that demand for the service “reflects the strength of the Irish diaspora and the importance of dependable global logistics”. Hynes said DHL’s international network enabled deliveries to reach families and friends “in mere hours or days” and that every Paddy Box shipment was handled “with precision and care”.
With St Patrick’s Day approaching, the shipments continue to leave at pace. For many recipients, it appears that the taste of home remains firmly embedded in Tayto crisps, Irish tea and the enduring comfort of familiar treats.
