Programme for Govt enshrines women’s leadership

Commitment to women’s full leadership and participation in decision-making.

The commitment in the new Programme for Government in Ireland to women’s full and effective participation in the workplace and equality and leadership at all levels of decision-making has been welcomed by 30% Club Ireland.

The programme, key to the formation of a coalition Government comprising Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and the Green Party, commits the government to “act on the recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality, seeking to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in the workplace, politics and public life”.

“At senior level, gender balance on boards and at executive level has been shown to ensure better decision-making, governance and board performance”

30% Club Ireland officially launched in January 2015 and works to achieve better gender balance at all levels in leading Irish businesses.

“Gender balance is important at all levels”, said the chair of 30% Club Ireland, Rachel Hussey.

“In particular at senior level, gender balance on boards and at executive level has been shown to ensure better decision-making, governance and board performance. It is good for employees, for leadership, and for business generally.”
