NorDan commits €5 million to Irish expansion amid rising demand for sustainable housing.
Scandinavian window and door manufacturer NorDan is investing €5m in its Irish operations this year, with plans to create 30 new jobs in the Midlands over the next two years.
The move comes as Ireland’s construction sector sees growing demand for energy-efficient housing and materials aligned with national climate targets.
The company, which has opened a new showroom in Athlone, is positioning the Midlands town as a regional base to support its national expansion. The showroom represents a €250,000 investment and will serve developers and retrofit specialists across the west of Ireland.
“This expansion reflects the growth we’re seeing right across the Irish construction sector, especially in sustainable homebuilding and retrofitting,” said Brendan Harte, Residential Director at NorDan Ireland. “Athlone is the ideal location for our new showroom and regional base, allowing us to better serve customers in the Midlands and the west.”
Race to zero
NorDan’s Irish turnover rose from €48 million in 2024 and is projected to reach €65 million in 2025. The company supplies high-performance windows and doors to leading residential developers, social housing schemes and retrofit projects nationwide. Its products are designed to meet NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) and Passive House standards.
NorDan’s manufacturing process prioritises sustainability, using Nordic timber and recycled aluminium to produce products with a lifespan of up to 60 years and minimal maintenance requirements. More than 90% of the materials used are recycled or recyclable, and its factories operate on renewable energy.
The company has also introduced dynamic, project-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), allowing developers to access precise emissions data for each build. These EPDs are independently verified and measure the total environmental impact of a product over its lifetime.
NorDan currently employs more than 150 people in Ireland. The new roles created through this investment will support its growing footprint in the Irish market and reinforce its commitment to regional development.
The Athlone showroom was officially opened by Peter Burke, TD, Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, and Dara Calleary, TD, Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation. Both ministers welcomed NorDan’s continued investment in Ireland’s regional economy.
