Meaghers Pharmacy Group has added Bhagwan’s Pharmacy in Ballinteer, Dublin 16, to its growing empire and has revealed it will continue to expand.

The business now has 10 pharmacies across Dublin as well as its online store Meagherspharmacy.ie, which looks after loyal customers across Ireland and ships to over 70 countries worldwide.

“Myself and my team at Meaghers are honoured that Mr Bhagwan has chosen Meaghers to continue the incredible legacy he has built in Ballinteer”

The purchase is part of Meaghers Pharmacy Group’s ambition to expand its network of community centric pharmacies while further promoting its approach to preventative health in the pharmacy space.

Community chemistry

Oonagh O’Hagan, owner and Managing Director of Meaghers Pharmacy Group, purchased the original Meaghers store on Dublin’s Baggot Street from the Meagher family in 2001.

Since then, Meaghers has gone on to win multiple awards including being named as a Deloitte Best Managed company every year since 2015 and as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces every year since 2020.

“We are delighted to have taken over the reins of Bhagwan’s pharmacy today and are deeply committed to continuing the incredible work that Mr Bhagwan , his family and has exceptional team have been doing in the  Ballinteer community  for 45 years.

“Bhagwan’s is a pharmacy embedded in the local community that we have admired for many years for the exceptional service they provide to their customers, the expertise of the staff and the incredible work that they do, going above and beyond within the local community. It is a long-established family business with very similar values to us at Meaghers, and therefore we feel we are perfectly aligned, with a very customer-centric patient care approach.

“Myself and my team at Meaghers are honoured that Mr Bhagwan has chosen Meaghers to continue the incredible legacy he has built in Ballinteer and we are looking forward to getting to know the customers and working with the team, welcoming them all into the Meaghers family. We are excited to bring the renowned Meaghers product offering and customer service to our new customers in the Ballinteer community.”

Setting standards

Meaghers purchased  and took over the reins of the community pharmacy, which was established in 1978, from Lalloo Bhagwan on Friday, 1 December.

“Nóra and I first purchased the pharmacy in 1978. At this time, it was operated by Mrs. Cranwell and was the first pharmacy in the Ballinteer area,” Bhagwan said.

“Her wishes on selling were that it continues as a pharmacy. We have fulfilled that promise over the last 45 years, servicing Ballinteer and wider communities.

“I am now 79 years of age, so it is time for me to take a step back, but I am delighted to say that the transfer of business to Meaghers will ensure Mrs. Cranwell’s wish continues to be fulfilled. It has been an honour and privilege to have served the community for the past 45 years, and I would like to extend my deepest and most sincere thanks and gratitude to each and every customer. Our staff are exceptional and are a testament to our high standard of patient and customer care, which I can assure you will continue under the new ownership of Meaghers.”
