Today’s job seekers are drawn to innovative firms

Irish workers seek innovation amid organisational change.

One-in-three office workers in Ireland are actively applying for roles in more innovative companies.

The Auxilion research, conducted by Censuswide and involving 1,000 respondents, highlights a growing appetite for forward-thinking workplaces amid widespread organisational transformation.

“To thrive, companies should embrace and empower change”

According to the findings, 33% of workers do not consider their current organisation to be innovative. While 19% cited a lack of innovation as a reason for leaving their job, other top factors included poor salary (54%), lack of career progression (40%), and limited opportunity (35%).

Encouraging innovation

Despite these concerns, the survey shows that 57% of office workers are asked for feedback on innovation projects, and 62% say innovation by employees is encouraged. The same proportion describe their company as forward-thinking in terms of technology, with 65% reporting regular updates or adoption of new technologies.

Transformation programmes are becoming increasingly common, with 49% of organisations having undertaken such initiatives in the past year and 41% currently undergoing change. However, this shift is not without challenges. Nearly half (49%) of workers find large-scale change disruptive, and 34% say their company announced redundancies in the past year.

Job security emerged as the most cited fear during organisational change (40%), followed by increased workload (29%) and loss of autonomy (13%). Only half of respondents feel involved in decisions that lead to change, and 31% admit they do not trust senior leadership to manage change effectively.

When asked about leadership missteps during times of transformation, poor communication ranked highest (30%), followed by failing to involve staff (20%) and rushing decisions (19%).

“To thrive, companies should embrace and empower change,” said Eleanor Dempsey, director of Strategy, Innovation and Transformation at Auxilion.

“That means investing in technologies to support automation and business process innovation. It also means focusing on the change management piece and implementing processes around cost optimisation, demand management and digital capability. In turn, companies can better navigate transformation and support innovation while retaining talent and driving success.”
