Having recently attended Jack Pierse’s Hatch 105 hackathon, Mark Cullen is inspired by the next generation of budding founders.
Ireland is becoming a global entrepreneurial hub and innovators such as Jack Pierse –who previously founded Wayflyer which he exited and now leads Bold Golf – are driving the growth of this area massively.
The ecosystem is naturally supported by strong Government backing such as Enterprise Ireland but without founders pushing the idea that becoming a founder and developing a product is achievable, it may not encourage as many people to take the plunge in the first place to attempt to turn their idea into reality.
“In terms of where the next Stripe might come from it is anyone’s guess – which makes for a very interesting time!”
With the youth of Ireland constantly looking for opportunity to build and companies such as Stripe hosting hackathon events, the opportunity to start a company has never been more in grasp for those at the beginning of their careers but also to those who have a spark of an idea and want to put it into practice.
Hatch 105 hackathon captures the vibe
Jack Pierse is fascinated by the startup scene and is attempting to progress the speed at which Irish people can become founders and start building from the ground up.
An example of this was the Hatch 105 hackathon like event which brought together 30 young people split into teams of three and they were presented the challenge of building something that can be useful to Shopify sellers.
From what started as an introduction at the beginning of the day ended with some amazing ideas which have been accepted into HappyStack’s summer programme hub to develop the ideas further.
This is just one example of hackathons and events happening around the country attempting to get younger people thinking outside the box when it comes to the opportunities that are available.
The idea behind Hatch105 is to innovate and provide mentorship for those looking to excel in the world of creating and building along with the advice needed to tackle the difficult elements of selling a product and the final steps of the process. The access to world class founders is a big selling point of this internship and opportunity to learn from those who have experienced things that you may not have even imagined in the first place and can learn from previous mistakes that may have been already made.
Jack Pierse quoted his experience in San Francisco as such a learning experience being thrown into the deep end and learning on his feet, which he believes the opportunities he is presenting at HappyStack should hopefully provide to others.
reland is slowly becoming a building hub for projects such as this, and it is fascinating to see the development of different projects. Along with this Jack has different investments such as being the owner of the Storyteller Pub which is very popular with the locals and much more.
A founder at heart and trying to inspire other young people to do the same is an admirable trait.
Overall, there is no sign that the growth scene in Dublin will be slowing down any time soon and the scaling at speed will simply continue.
It is an exciting time to be seeing the growth of this area with new stories and founders coming from all different sectors and areas.
In terms of where the next Stripe might come from it is anyone’s guess – which makes for a very interesting time!
