40% of Irish large enterprises lose employees following DEI policy changes.
A new survey reveals significant workforce disruption as major Irish companies navigate shifting diversity policies, with nearly half of organisations divided on their approach to DEI initiatives.
According to research released today (29 May 2025) by Expleo, 40% of large enterprises in Ireland have experienced employee resignations directly attributed to recent changes in their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies.
“Shortcomings on targets can be demoralising and subject to board scrutiny. But if we abandon targets, we effectively stop holding ourselves to account”
The Business Transformation Index 2025 surveyed 200 business and IT decision-makers across Irish organisations with over 250 employees.
“Committing to DEI is not easy. Shortcomings on targets can be demoralising and subject to board scrutiny. But if we abandon targets, we effectively stop holding ourselves to account,” said Phil Codd, managing director for Ireland at Expleo.
Workplace diversity divide
The findings highlight a growing divide in corporate approaches to workplace diversity:
- 49% of organisations are increasing their commitment to DEI initiatives
- 42% believe there is excessive focus on diversity programs
- 56% consider DEI fundamental to organizational success
- 40% have eliminated or plan to eliminate DEI targets completely since November 2024
- 50% of companies are removing employee pronouns from email signatures
- 47% report employees are concerned about DEI becoming less important
- 49% of companies with US operations are adjusting DEI language to avoid potential complications in American markets
Codd emphasised that companies maintaining or strengthening their diversity commitments may gain a competitive advantage in talent acquisition.
“A significant proportion of enterprise leaders said they are increasing their commitment to DEI in Ireland. These are the businesses who are going against the grain and making choices that are not only principled, but commercially smart.”
The research, conducted by Censuswide, comes amid broader global debates about the role and effectiveness of corporate diversity programs.
“We see first-hand at Expleo, by enriching our workforces, diversity brings tangible value to organisations by widening perspectives and challenging accepted norms,” Codd added. “It is fundamental to the innovation we bring to our clients and our own revenue growth as a challenger in the IT services space in Ireland.”
As Irish businesses navigate these complex workplace dynamics, the report suggests those maintaining strong DEI commitments may be better positioned to attract and retain talent in an increasingly competitive market.
