Gym+Coffee reaches 1m Irish customers, plots global expansion

Launched just seven years ago Gym+Coffee now has 2m items sold in Ireland alone, 20% year on year online growth in the UK and seven physical retail locations in Ireland and the UK, serving customers in more than 80 countries.

Irish athleisure business Gym+Coffee has reached the milestone of having gained its one-millionth customer in Ireland.

The business is now gearing up for a major expansion across the UK with more than 30 new retail partnerships including Next, Very & Debenhams, and is finalising distribution deals across the Middle East & Asia.

“Hitting our millionth order in Ireland is honestly hard to wrap your head around when you think that there’s only 5m people total here, and on average we see almost two items per order”

Hitting this milestone is a massive achievement for an Irish brand, only seven years old, in a competitive space.

Going for gold

“We have been so lucky over the last 7 years that the people of Ireland passionately support local businesses and have shown us such massive support,” said CEO and co-founder Niall Horgan.

“Hitting our millionth order in Ireland is honestly hard to wrap your head around when you think that there’s only 5m people total here, and on average we see almost two items per order”.

While, Gym+Coffee hoodies are the most recognisable items, Gym+Coffee has more than 300 premium items ranging from leggings, to t-shirts, fleeces and shorts, all designed for working-out and chilling-out.

Gym+Coffee is powered by commerce platform Shopify, and is one of Shopify’s largest Irish customers.

“The story of Gym+Coffee is such an inspiration for myself and everyone at Shopify, and we salute Niall and his team for their entrepreneurial spirit and growth,” said Deann Evans, Managing Director, EMEA from Shopify.

“This is a huge milestone, one that not many businesses in Ireland on our platform have achieved. Gym+Coffee is a true Irish success story.”

Gym+Coffee also has its sights set on growing the international side of the business and now boasts some high profile retailer partners across the UK and beyond.

Horgan added: “It’s been amazing to scale the business to where we are in Ireland but our ambition is to replicate that across the world. While the UK was initially a more challenging market to enter, we’re now seeing really positive signs with the online side of Gym+Coffee being up 20% year on year in the UK.

“We also introduced our wholesale channel last year and within 9 months have added over 30 wholesale partners across the UK including some big name brand partners like Very, Debenhams and Next. We also have just closed our first deals with distribution partners in Asia and the Middle East”.

Horgan added that 2024 is an exciting year for Gym+Coffee with lots of business development and exciting campaigns planned.

The brand has struck a new partnership with Lifestyle Sports where G+C products are now available for sale in Lifestyle stores and online. Community initiatives are at the core of the brand’s mission and their 2nd annual Make Life Richer Awards campaign kicks off this month.

Later this summer, Gym+Coffee will have two brand ambassadors going to the Olympics with Kellie Harrington and Rhys McCleneghan looking to win gold for Ireland in Paris.
