Griffdon Engineering will use the growth to enhance skills in the electrical service and maintenance sector
A family-run electrical engineering company will create 48 new jobs at its headquarters in Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, with support from Enterprise Ireland’s Company Development Fund.
Griffdon Engineering announced the expansion at an event Monday attended by Minister of State Alan Dillon TD and Enterprise Ireland CEO designate Jenny Melia. The new positions will focus on electrical service and maintenance sector work.
“Griffdon Engineering is already a regionally significant company which has experienced extensive export growth in the critical infrastructure construction sector, particularly in overseas markets”
The company, which already employs 350 people, will use the growth to enhance skills in the electrical service and maintenance sector while capitalising on growing demand from multinationals in tech, pharmaceuticals, and agrifood industries.
Future Cast, a not-for-profit innovation center based in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, helped secure the Enterprise Ireland funding for the expansion.
Scaling siblings
Griffdon Engineering provides services across multiple sectors including semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, oil and gas, renewable energy, and ICT firms involved in data centre construction.
The company is led by managing director Seamus Griffin and EHS director Elayne Griffin, children of founders Martin and Mary Griffin. The siblings took over operations in 2017 and have since grown the business considerably, taking on large-scale projects in Ireland and across Europe.
Minister Dillon praised the company’s growth and innovation in sustainable construction practices.
“Griffdon Engineering is already a regionally significant company which has experienced extensive export growth in the critical infrastructure construction sector, particularly in overseas markets,” Dillon said.
“Today’s job expansion announcement is hugely important to the Mid-West region and national economy, and a testament to the vision of the Griffdon team.”
Jenny Melia, Enterprise Ireland’s CEO Designate, highlighted the company’s focus on offsite manufacturing and prefabrication trends in construction.
“Enterprise Ireland is delighted to support this family-owned business as it grows from strength-to-strength by capitalising on the growing trend towards more offsite manufacturing (OSM) and prefabrication in the construction industry,” Melia said.
Seamus Griffin expressed gratitude for the support from Enterprise Ireland and the Government. “On behalf of everyone at Griffdon Engineering, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Enterprise Ireland for their invaluable support and funding, which has played a pivotal role in helping us reach this important milestone in our company’s growth,” Griffin said.
He also thanked Minister Dillon for attending the announcement event, noting the importance of regional development and government support for local industry.
“This is a proud day for Griffdon Engineering, for Ballaghaderreen, and for the wider community. We are excited to build on this momentum and look forward to what we can achieve — together,” Griffin added.
