New jobs arrive as Cavan business Galetech progresses 1,000-megawatt pipeline of renewable energy projects.
Galetech Group has announced plans to create 65 high-value jobs over the next three years as part of a major expansion strategy aimed at doubling the size of its business.
The company, headquartered in County Cavan, is progressing a 1,000 megawatt (MW) pipeline of renewable energy projects across wind, solar and battery storage.
“We believe Ireland must invest in these technologies to add value to the renewable energy produced here, rather than simply exporting electricity”
It is also investing in pioneering e-Fuels technology, a synthetic fuel solution produced from renewable energy, water and carbon dioxide, which is expected to play a key role in decarbonising sectors such as aviation.
The expansion will see Galetech grow its workforce from 150 to 215, with new roles in engineering, planning, design, technical support, sales and business support functions including HR, finance and IT. The initiative is supported by Enterprise Ireland.
Global energy transition
Darren Sherry, CEO of Galetech Group, said the company is positioning itself to contribute meaningfully to the global energy transition.
“We’re progressing a 1,000 MW development pipeline and investing in emerging technologies like e-Fuels,” Sherry said. “Just like our food industry exports finished products all over the world, we believe Ireland must invest in these technologies to add value to the renewable energy produced here, rather than simply exporting electricity. This is the biggest opportunity for the green economy, particularly if we can develop solutions for sectors like aviation.”
Founded in 2000, Galetech has delivered over 650 MW of wind energy projects through joint ventures and development partnerships. Its energy services division provides asset management, operations and maintenance, diagnostics and project management services to clients including Statkraft, Bord na Móna, Orsted, SSE, Energia and General Electric.
The company is also exploring longer-term hydrogen storage solutions and plans to establish a 1 MW e-Fuels pilot plant in Ireland, anticipating increased demand driven by EU mandates for synthetic aviation fuels.
International expansion strategy
International expansion is a core part of Galetech’s strategy, with active development in the UK, Africa and Australia. The UK market is seen as particularly promising due to supportive policy changes under the current government.
Niamh Smyth TD, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, welcomed the announcement.
“This is a major vote of confidence in Cavan and Ireland as a hub for innovation and green energy,” Smyth said. “It is fantastic to see a locally founded company creating high-quality jobs and leading in new frontiers like e-Fuels while expanding into global markets.”
Mark Christal, Head of Sustainability at Enterprise Ireland, said Galetech exemplifies the kind of ambition needed to tackle global energy challenges.
“Galetech is delivering sustainable solutions while driving regional growth,” Christal said. “We will continue to support them as they scale and expand their global footprint.”
Galetech currently operates across Ireland, the UK, Australia and Africa, serving utilities, independent power producers, public bodies and industrial clients with services spanning project development, engineering, operations and maintenance, inspections, asset performance and sustainable building solutions.
