Fuel supplier Flogas deepens national low carbon infrastructure with Circle K deal as hauliers push for cleaner transport options.
Flogas has agreed a multi‑year partnership with Circle K that will widen access to renewable Bio‑CNG for hauliers across Ireland and bring centralised billing and carbon‑tracking tools to fleet operators.
The move marks one of the more substantial expansions of commercial low‑carbon refuelling infrastructure in the state as logistics companies look for practical alternatives to diesel.
“We will provide detailed sustainability reporting so they can clearly track their carbon savings”
Under the deal, Flogas CNG fuel card holders will be able to use all four Circle K CNG stations for the first time. These are located in Dublin Port, Clonshaugh in County Dublin, Cashel in County Tipperary and Ballysimon Road in County Limerick. They will sit alongside the existing Flogas Bio‑CNG site in Barberstown, County Dublin.
The combined network offers coverage of roughly 820 kilometres between stations, which Flogas said provides reliable refuelling access across the country’s main freight corridors.
Sustainability hits the tarmac
Jonathan Diver, senior director of fuel at Circle K, said the expansion aligned with the company’s long‑term sustainability aims.
“We are thrilled to be taking the next step in our partnership with Flogas, moving to fully renewable Bio‑CNG and expanding access to cleaner transport solutions nationwide. This aligns closely with our wider sustainability goals and commitment to supporting customers, including Flogas customers, in their transition to lower‑carbon fuels,” he said.
Customers will be able to use either Flogas or Circle K branded cards, with each transaction integrated into a unified billing system.
Fleet operators will also receive detailed sustainability reports designed to provide transparent data on carbon savings and environmental performance, a requirement that has become increasingly important for companies reporting against ESG frameworks.
Ciaran Gahan, energy services manager at Flogas, said the partnership was aimed at improving flexibility and visibility for customers.
“For the first time, Flogas CNG fuel card holders will be able to refuel at every Circle K CNG station nationwide, as well as our own Bio‑CNG network, under a single contract with Flogas,” he said. “We will provide detailed sustainability reporting so they can clearly track their carbon savings.”
The company also announced a new agreement with Virginia International Logistics, one of its longest‑standing haulage partners. Eight Virginia trucks will be issued Flogas fuel cards, giving them access to both networks. The partnership dates to 2019, when the companies worked together on what they described as Ireland’s first carbon‑neutral truck trip, a 1,000‑kilometre round journey from Ballyjamesduff in County Cavan to Caen in France using Bio‑CNG supplied by Flogas.
Blaithin Curran, driver management lead at Virginia International Logistics, said the latest development simplified the company’s decarbonisation efforts.
“The ability for our eight new Bio‑CNG trucks, and indeed our wider fleet, to refuel with Flogas cards at Circle K stations across the country is a game‑changer for convenience and operational efficiency,” she said. “It makes it easier than ever for Virginia International Logistics to maintain our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint while delivering reliable service for our customers.”
Flogas is also scaling its involvement in Ireland’s renewable gas market through a national offtake agreement with Nephin Renewable Gas. The arrangement will see Flogas purchase the full biomethane output from three anaerobic digestion plants, including a site under construction in Ballinrobe, County Mayo.
Once operational, the facilities are expected to produce more than 250 GWh of biomethane annually, part of a wider push to strengthen indigenous energy supply and support Ireland’s shift to lower‑carbon fuels.
