Long-term partnership with four Midlands councils will deliver 250 new chargers and accelerate regional transition to electric transport.
Irish EV charger player EZO has secured a €206 million (£176 million) contract to deliver and operate an electric vehicle charging network across parts of the Midlands, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the UK.
The 15-year agreement, awarded by the Fourth Midlands EV Infrastructure Consortium, will see the installation of 250 new charging points serving approximately two million residents across Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Warwickshire.
“This rollout will transform EV charging in the Midlands, making it easier than ever for residents and businesses to switch to clean transport”
The consortium brings together the four county councils in partnership with Midlands Connect, the region’s sub-national transport body.
The rollout will be funded by the UK government and delivered without direct capital investment from the participating councils, reflecting a model designed to accelerate infrastructure delivery while limiting local authority spending.
Scaling buzz
The latest contract strengthens EZO’s position in the UK market following another major agreement signed in October 2025. That deal, valued at €347 million (£300 million), covers a 20-year rollout across the north of Scotland. The company now operates more than 400 chargers in that region and is in the process of developing around 1,000 additional units.
Combined, the two projects bring EZO’s total UK contract value to €563 million (£476 million), underlining growing demand for large-scale deployment of public charging infrastructure.
The Midlands initiative is expected to support the UK government’s wider ambition to install 65,000 public EV chargers by 2030. The programme will focus on rapid and ultra-rapid charging points, particularly targeting areas where residents rely on on-street parking and have limited access to home charging.
Local authorities involved in the consortium aim to improve accessibility to EV infrastructure, support cleaner air initiatives and contribute to transport decarbonisation efforts. Rising fuel costs and increased availability of more affordable electric vehicles have contributed to a surge in EV adoption across the UK in recent months, adding urgency to infrastructure expansion.
Ollie Chatten, chief executive of EZO, said the contract reflects growing confidence among public sector partners.
“This partnership in the Midlands is another major milestone for EZO and a clear demonstration of the trust local UK authorities are placing in us to deliver EV charging at scale,” he said.
“This rollout will transform EV charging in the Midlands, making it easier than ever for residents and businesses to switch to clean transport.”
Chatten added that the company’s strategy extends beyond infrastructure installation and focuses on long-term network development.
“Our strategy is about more than deploying chargers. It is about building the infrastructure backbone for the next generation of mobility across communities. We have over 140,000 drivers now accessing our platform across the UK and Ireland, and we see a path to growing steadily. We are firmly on course to become one of the most trusted EV charging providers in the UK and Ireland.”
EZO currently operates more than 5,900 chargers across 2,100 locations in the UK and Ireland and serves a registered base of over 140,000 EV drivers. The business is backed by Rubicon Capital Advisors, which advised on investment from Aviva Investors in 2023.
The Midlands contract signals continued momentum in public and private collaboration to expand EV infrastructure, with regional consortia playing an increasingly prominent role in delivering nationwide charging coverage.
