Pizza the action: Domino’s opens €16m supply chain hub

€16m Domino’s supply chain centre underpins pizza company’s plans to accelerate growth in Ireland with 500 new jobs planned across the country.

Pizza chain Domino’s has opened a new 2,550 sq metre Irish supply chain centre in Naas, Co Kildare.

The business says it is set to hire a total of 500 new colleagues in preparation for its upcoming peak season.

“We’re a nation of food lovers and the easing inflation, robust labour market and recovery in disposable incomes, means the market has incredible growth potential for Domino’s”

The operation will employ 50 people, bringing Domino’s headcount in Ireland to more than 3,000 people and the potential to generate a further 900 roles across Ireland.

A grate topping of jobs

Featuring the latest in technology and robotics, the new SCC will increase the company’s capacity in Ireland by at least 40%.

The supply chain centre underpins Domino’s growth plans in Ireland as it is able to service over 130 stores. The facility uses state-of-the-art equipment to produce, store, and ship fresh dough and ingredients to Domino’s stores across the country.

The new SCC can manufacture dough at a much faster rate than previously, thanks to automated robots which place Domino’s freshly made doughballs into trays on the manufacturing line, running up to 950 trays per hour, compared to 450 trays before.

Sustainability has also been an important consideration in the development of the site, and it is the first Domino’s SCC in the UK & Ireland to be (partially) powered by 310 on-site solar panels.  This is an important step in the Group’s sustainability strategy and goal to be net zero by 2050.

The facility will employ approximately 50 colleagues, bringing the total number of Domino’s roles in Ireland to around 3,000. The increased capacity of the facility means Domino’s can open more stores to serve even more communities.

The company says this means there is potential for a further 900 roles to be created in the communities where these new stores will be located and comes at a time when Domino’s is preparing for the busy season and recruiting 500 store-based roles.

A typical store provides 20-30 roles per community, including management, customer service positions and pizza makers. Domino’s offers in-depth training, a focus on career development at all levels and provides great opportunities for progression – in fact, 90% of Domino’s store managers started as delivery drivers or pizza makers.

“The opening of our new Supply Chain Centre in Naas is a powerful demonstration of our commitment to accelerating growth in Ireland,” said the managing director of Domino’s in Ireland Annelie McCaffrey.

“We’re a nation of food lovers and the easing inflation, robust labour market and recovery in disposable incomes, means the market has incredible growth potential for Domino’s.

“We have already opened five new stores in the past year and have ambitious plans for the rest of 2024 and beyond. This year marks 34 years of Domino’s in Ireland and we look forward to working with our world class franchisees to serve new communities, create more jobs and deliver even more great value, piping hot pizzas to customers.”
