With 8 ultra-fast EV charging ports and Ireland’s first Taco Bell, Applegreen’s new €15m M3 Service Area in Dunshaughlin will be a forecourt game-changer.
Applegreen will open Ireland’s first Taco Bell restaurant this September as part of a €15m investment in a new motorway service area at Junction 6 on the M3 in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. The development will create over 100 new jobs and introduce a range of food and retail offerings.
The new facility will feature a Taco Bell restaurant, a Burger King, a Braeburn Coffee Café, and a Crafted Kitchen & Deli, Applegreen’s new Irish deli concept. It will also include an M&S Food shop-in-shop, an Applegreen convenience store, and a service station forecourt.
“This is a very significant addition to the Applegreen network in Ireland, as we’re opening a state-of-the-art new facility on the M3, which up until now didn’t have a dedicated services option”
The Dunshaughlin site spans nearly 10 acres and will be open 24 hours a day. Food outlets will operate daily from 6am to 11pm. The location will also serve as the largest EV charging hub on the M3, with eight ultra-fast EV charging ports capable of speeds up to 400kW. Additional chargers will be added as power availability increases.
Tasty new development
“When we announced our plan to bring Taco Bell to Ireland back in April, we were thrilled to see that our customers were just as excited as we were,” Seamus Stapleton, managing director of Applegreen’s Republic of Ireland business explained.
“We’re delighted to confirm today that Ireland’s first Taco Bell will be located at Applegreen’s new motorway service area on the M3 at Dunshaughlin and it will open in September.”
Stapleton added that Applegreen plans to open several additional Taco Bell restaurants across Ireland over the next five years.
Matthew Johnson, New Market Lead for Taco Bell Europe, said, “By partnering with Applegreen, Taco Bell is able to bring our iconic menu and unique dining experience to Ireland and continue to grow as a global brand. This partnership will enhance Taco Bell’s presence in Europe, solidifying our regional footprint and propelling our global growth ambitions.”
Stapleton described the project as Applegreen’s largest single investment in Ireland this year. “This is a very significant addition to the Applegreen network in Ireland, as we’re opening a state-of-the-art new facility on the M3, which up until now didn’t have a dedicated services option,” he said.
Applegreen continues to expand its partnership with M&S Food, now available at 30 outlets, with plans to reach 60 locations in the medium term. The company has also added six new Braeburn Coffee Cafés this year and is launching its Crafted Kitchen & Deli brand, which will offer a mix of new products and traditional deli favourites.
The forecourt retailer operates nearly 200 locations in Ireland and invests more than €50m annually in new store openings and upgrades. Globally, the company has over 430 locations and more than 700 branded food offers across Ireland, the UK, and the United States. It employs approximately 16,000 people and serves around 180m customers each year.
In the United States, Applegreen operates 181 sites and was recently awarded a 35-year contract to manage 18 highway service plazas in Massachusetts.
The company will invest $750m to build nine new service areas and upgrade the remaining nine. It has also begun work on a $70m project to construct four new highway service plazas in Colorado.
In the UK, Applegreen’s Welcome Break business includes 60 sites, 36 motorway service areas, and 31 hotels. The company is planning a €85m investment to expand its EV charging networks across Ireland, the UK, and the US.
