New IKEA Gateway Retail Park location will offer tailored design services alongside convenient click and collect and same day purchases.
Furniture retail giant IKEA is set to expand its presence in Ireland with plans to open a new Plan and Order Point in Galway, marking its largest such format in the country to date and bringing its total number of customer meeting points nationally to 10.
The new location, situated in Gateway Retail Park, will focus on providing customers with personalised planning services for kitchens, bedrooms and storage solutions. The smaller store format is designed to combine specialist design expertise with practical retail convenience, allowing customers to move from concept to purchase in a single location.
“We are really looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant Galway retail landscape and community, and to helping more people create a better everyday life at home”
Customers visiting the Galway site will be able to book appointments with IKEA design specialists or drop in to begin planning projects. The store will also feature a curated retail offering of around 250 home furnishing accessories available for immediate purchase, alongside a click and collect service and a self-serve section stocked with flat pack bestsellers.
The facility will include an in store returns point, further integrating services that support both online and in person shopping journeys.
Growing locally
Jayne Owen Gauld, Market Manager for IKEA Ireland, said the development reflects the company’s continued investment in accessibility and customer experience. “We are incredibly excited about the prospect of bringing this enhanced IKEA experience to Galway,” she said.
“This new Plan and Order Point, with its expanded immediate purchase and self-serve options, is a testament to our commitment to making IKEA more accessible and convenient for our customers in the West of Ireland.”
She added that the retailer is keen to embed itself within the local area. “We are really looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant Galway retail landscape and community, and to helping more people create a better everyday life at home.”
Gateway Retail Park is managed by Sigma Retail Partners, whose director Paddy O’Connor welcomed the announcement and pointed to the strength of the location as a retail destination.
“We are delighted to welcome IKEA to Galway and are excited for them joining the existing lineup of fantastic tenants at Gateway Shopping Park,” he said. “We wish IKEA the best of luck with their new opening and are confident they will be a great success at Gateway Shopping Park.”
The Galway Plan and Order Point represents a continuation of IKEA’s strategy of investing in smaller, more flexible formats that complement its larger stores and online operations. These locations aim to bring the brand closer to customers, particularly in regions outside of major urban centres, while maintaining access to the full product range through digital ordering and collection services.
The company noted that the Galway site will emphasise convenience and accessibility, with customers able to leave with selected items on the same day or collect larger orders placed online. The addition of planning services is expected to strengthen IKEA’s appeal among homeowners undertaking renovation or redesign projects that require more tailored support.
Further details, including an opening date, are expected to be announced in due course.
