Irish brothers’ Nutritics buys UK digital menu platform

Irish brothers Damian and Ciarán O’Kelly’s Nutritics is serving up a recipe for success based on demand for greater food transparency.

Food and health software business Nutritics has acquired UK menu publishing platform Ten Kites for an undisclosed sum.

Ten Kites’ platform empowers food businesses to publish fully compliant, personalised digital menus across multiple customer touch points, including web pages, mobile apps and digital displays.

“There is a huge growth in demand for food businesses to provide information at the point-of-sale”

Nutritics was founded in 2013 by brothers Damian and Ciarán O’Kelly after they spotted a gap in the market for a detailed and accessible database of food information for use by food businesses, nutrition and research experts. Its multi-award winning software solutions are now used in over 100 countries by a wide range of food businesses, alongside health, sport and education professionals. Nutritics Food provides menu management and food labelling solutions for multi-site food service operators, caterers and hospitality sector leaders.

The gold standard

Nutritics has been awarded the Gold Standard Recipe Calculation Accreditation by the European Food Information Resource (EuroFIR). Nutritics Food clients include LEON, Aramark and Starbucks. Nutritics Health is used by the NHS, Public Health England and Manchester City FC, alongside over 90pc of all third level universities in Ireland and the UK.

“This acquisition strengthens the Nutritics offering by enabling us to combine our Food and Health software solutions with the Ten Kites platform used by restaurants, pub groups and bars, ensuring that the menu information being provided to customers is accurate and detailed to allow them to make the choices they want to,” said Stephen Nolan, managing director of Nutritics.

“There is a huge growth in demand for food businesses to provide information at the point-of-sale, for example in the UK with Natasha’s Law regarding allergens on labels and calories on menus and indeed in other countries. Combined with that, the Covid-19 pandemic has increased the pace at which the food and hospitality sector has adopted digital platforms in order to safely operate by providing staff and consumers with easy access to menu information and ordering platforms.

The deal will enable Nutritics to include the innovative Ten Kites solution as part of its overall software offering, delivering increased value and business benefits to customers across 100 countries including the UK, US and Australia. It also enables Ten Kites to drive international expansion with access to new market segments across Europe, Middle East and Australia. The combined entity currently employs 50 staff and there are plans for further recruitment to support expansion.

“We are extremely pleased to join forces with Nutritics. They, like us, have a culture of collaboration, innovation and service,” said Stuart Wilson, CEO of Ten Kites.

“Our strategic focus is to bring the Ten Kites solution to new international markets. This is the next step in our journey – one that opens up new opportunities for our brand, both at home and abroad. Ten Kites will continue to serve its customers and partners with the same level of collaboration and support, while also growing our reach in overseas markets, with support from Nutritics.”
