Clune Technology takes €2m majority stake in Gradguide

Gradguide pairs best-in-class mentors with students and recent grads to help them transition to the tech workforce.

Clune Technology Group has made a €2m majority equity investment of €2m in Dublin-based Gradguide.

Headed by fintech trailblazer Terry Clune, Clune Technology Group was previously known as The Taxback Group.

“Gradguide was built from the anxiety I experienced first-hand upon graduation and then saw friends and family also encounter who graduated after me”

Gradguide is an online career guidance, mentorship and recruitment platform that pairs best-in-class mentors with students and recent grads to help them transition successfully from college to the tech workforce while offering continued support to ensure graduates excel in their new role.

Bridging the gap

Despite the continued growth of the tech sector in Ireland it is still rare for graduates to move into the tech space straight out of college, particularly with smaller or indigenous companies or in go-to-market functions such as sales, support and customer success.

The technology sector offers some of the best opportunities for graduates to advance their career with hands-on experience and Gradguide are bridging the employment gap between college and technology companies who are looking to hire young ambitious talent who want their work to have a real impact.

The network of mentors includes professionals from LinkedIn, Google, Salesforce, Microsoft, Hubspot and Intercom, to name a few.

“So many graduates still have that frustrating experience of sending out CVs far and wide, often more in hope than expectation,” said Mark Hughes, CEO and founder of Gradguide. “From our experience many don’t even see a way to break into the tech sector but have the exact skillset that so many companies are crying out for. Only through mentorship did I land my own dream job post-graduation at Intercom back in 2017.

“Gradguide was built from the anxiety I experienced first-hand upon graduation and then saw friends and family also encounter who graduated after me. We believe every company is becoming a technology company and we want to bridge the employment gap that currently exists between college and company.”

Employing over 1,400 staff across 22 countries, the group’s companies include Benamic, Immedis, Sprintax, Taxback.com, Taxback International and TransferMate covering areas such as Compliance, PayRoll and Payments. Clune Technology’s clients include Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Intel and world leading Universities such as Harvard university & Oxford University.

CEO Terry Clune said that getting started on the career ladder can be very daunting for graduates.

“Gradguide is an extremely innovative program connecting graduates with employers through the guidance of brilliant mentors. Mark and his team, all in their twenties, have a tremendous passion to help graduates find great employers. We are incredibly impressed by what they have achieved. We are delighted to be investing in Mark and his team to help build Gradguide’s future.

“There are many synergies across Clune Group which Gradguide can avail of to help expand internationally and to build out the technology.”

“Personally I really value the social impact of Gradguide. It’s free for both graduates & mentors, while employers pay an annual fee. Two of our Group companies, TransferMate & Immedis already use Gradguide to recruit graduates, and our experience has been brilliant. We are delighted to be investing in Mark and his team at Gradguide” added Clune.
