Festival of ideas returns to Cong

The sixth annual festival of ideas, CongRegation will take place from November 23 to 25. Over 100 Irish and international speakers will share new ideas.

CongRegation is an annual festival of ideas that takes place in the village of Cong, Co. Mayo. The centrepiece of the weekend is the ‘unconference’ which sees coffee shops, a bookshop, an art gallery, restaurants and other stores in Cong village turned into mini-conference centres or huddles with attendees debating and discussing how to get their ideas off the ground.

The price of entry to the three-day’ conference’ is a 600-word unique article on the theme of ‘ideas’. You can submit your entry here

“The structure of CongRegation allows attendees to get to know each other better in a relaxed and informal environment,” says organiser Eoin Kennedy (pictured above).

“We are looking for open-minded people from very different backgrounds.”

An evening in Ashford Castle

Speakers at the Ashford Castle include businesswoman Daphne McKinley on establishing the Sean Edwards Foundation; Valerie Cox on her 21 years experience of ideas as a journalist; Lee Tunney Ware on ‘what are ideas’; David Gluckman, innovator, ppoet and inventor of Baileys on how the creative community approaches ideas. The evening will finish with a Semicon(g)ductor Physics session with Mags Amond and Richard Millwood, where the attendees will literally try their hand at conducting electricity.

New ideas are the currency

While the adults are enjoying the mind mesh in Cong Village on Saturday 24, their children can enjoy activities including a smart fabric workshop by Common Ground Design followed by music (drums) and a clay-modelling workshop in the Crossroad Centre.

After the conference dinner on Saturday attendees will be taught how to play the Ukulele from scratch by Sean McGrath in Danagher’s Hotel.

CongRegation will finish with a foraging walk in Cong Woods on Sunday morning.

“We are looking for open-minded people from very different backgrounds with a unique insight on ‘ideas’ to submit their thoughts via the entry on the website,” says Kennedy.

The event is sponsored by Mayo.ie, the Advanced Productivity Skillnet, MKC Communications (www.mkc.ie) and Blacknight.
