To be rewarded in business you should learn from others, but it’s also important to trust your instinct. If I were to start all over again, for example, I would trust myself sooner.
Along the way I’ve learned that, while I can’t say I’m always right, my instincts are really good. By nature I’m not inclined to focus on mistakes. I’m the type of person who forgets about things I did wrong and only remembers the things I did right. Forget about the losses, focus on the wins.
“If I were to do it all again, I’d probably realise the importance of engaging people who are smarter than me, sooner.”
I’m very fortunate in that nothing major has gone wrong for me in business, but one thing I do better now is that I have stopped expecting myself to know everything.
You can’t do that if you’ve an ego but, to be honest, there is no room for ego in business. It only gets in the way of your business.
You have to remember that success in business is all the bottom line. It’s about making money, not feeding your self-image. If it’s ego you are after, you’d be better off doing something else.
