Broadband firm Pure Telecom has struck a €12m deal with Enet that will give it access to 242,000 potential premises on fibre player SIRO’s network.
“Demand for high-speed internet connections for consumers and businesses in rural and urban areas is at an all-time high,” explained the CEO of Pure Telecom Paul Connell.
“As a national service provider, we offer the best possible connection for every single customer in Ireland. This deal significantly increases the number of customers we can provide ultra-fast and reliable broadband to and gives customers a wider range of internet speeds that they can choose from for their specific needs.”
“This latest agreement highlights how SIRO is driving competition in the broadband market and helping to reverse the digital divide in Ireland”
The move will enable Pure Telecom to deliver broadband speeds over fibre of up to 1Gbps to homes and businesses across Ireland.
End-to-end superfast broadband
Enet operates the largest alternative wholesale telecoms network in Ireland, which is comprised of over 5,400-kilometres of fibre infrastructure, as well as the Irish Government’s Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and one of the largest wireless networks in Ireland.
“We have made massive efforts to support retail service providers in the provision of superfast broadband to end users,” explained David Eure, chief commercial officer of Enet.
“Underpinning this, Enet has made a multi-million-euro investment in the development of an automated software platform that aggregates Enet’s own network as well as third party infrastructure. The new platform supports retail service providers in the provision of superfast broadband to end users, ensuring consumers have access to more choice, better reliability and faster broadband speeds.”
Launched in May 2015, SIRO is a joint venture of ESB and Vodafone which is investing €450m in building Ireland’s first 100pc fibre-to-the-Building broadband network, offering a 1Gbps internet connection to homes and businesses 50 towns. Using the existing ESB network, SIRO delivers fibre optic cables all the way to the building.
“This latest agreement highlights how SIRO is driving competition in the broadband market and helping to reverse the digital divide in Ireland,” said Ronan Whelan, chief commercial officer of SIRO.
“Pure Telecom’s commitment to provide customers with the best connectivity, competitive pricing and better service through our wholesale network is great news for home and business customers.”
