West Dublin company Certification Europe – one of Europe’s leading providers of ISO certification – has been acquired by UK-based Amtivo Group for an undisclosed sum.

Certification Europe, a portfolio company of the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Fund, was founded in 1999 and is an internationally accredited certification body based in Dublin with offices in London, Italy and Japan.

The Irish company works with organisations across the globe to achieve ISO Certification and provides training on a variety of management systems from Quality Management, Health & Safety to Energy Management and Information Security.

“From our base in Dublin we will bring to Amtivo access to several core markets, plus genuine leadership, skillset and knowledge in the key area of IT and data security”

Its acquisition establishes an impressive international footprint for the Amtivo Group in key markets. Certification Europe performs over 10,000 assessments annually for its customers and has offices in Japan, Italy and the UK.

Amtivo Group’s portfolio of companies include the British Assessment Bureau (BAB), myActiv and Equas Consulting.

Return on investment

Kernel Capital through the Bank of Ireland Seed & Early Stage Equity Fund first invested in Certification Europe in November 2014.  The deal, terms of which are confidential, delivers a significant multiple return for our investors The Bank of Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, The University of Limerick Foundation and the Galway University Foundation.

“Kernel Capital have supported us in building a market-leading ISO certification, Training and Inspection business, resulting in a successful trade sale to the Amtivo Group,” said Michael Brophy, CEO, Certification Europe.

“From our base in Dublin we will bring to Amtivo access to several core markets, plus genuine leadership, skillset and knowledge in the key area of IT and data security.

“We look forward to combining this with Amtivo’s unique go-to-market approach and technology, which will help us provide an even better and wider variety of services to our customers and provides us with an innovate and market-leading approach to swiftly scaling our international operations,” Brophy said.

Kernel Capital was advised by LK Shields on the transaction.
